Finding Light When the Tunnel Feels Endless: Managing Stress in the Dark
Sometimes, I feel as though my son's soul is far older than his young body. He drops wisdom bombs that leave even me—yes, me!—speechless. And if you know me, you know how rare that is.
The other day, as we were walking outside, he said something that stopped me in my tracks:
“Mommy, your superpower is your ability to stay calm. Look at everything you’ve been through—you didn’t break. Even when I throw my tantrums, your calmness calms me down in the end. People need to hear your story because it will guide so many. Perhaps not many appreciate or know your story now, but trust me, they will.”
As we walked the cold streets of Brussels, tears rolled down my cheeks. Tears of relief—because we are finally in a peaceful chapter of our lives, one I had prayed for not so long ago. Tears of joy—because I am blessed to have this soul as my son. He has been my rock during times when I couldn’t see any light at the end of the tunnel.
Resilience is an incredible strength that allows us to bend without breaking under life’s pressures. But even the most resilient among us need support—a safe haven, a hand to hold, or a voice to say, “Everything will be okay.”
So, how do we keep going when there is no light at the end of the tunnel?
How do we shoulder stress when tomorrow feels insurmountable?
This message is for those who feel alone in the dark, searching for a way out.
I want you to know: there is always a way out. I am living proof.
Let me share my story of how I turned on the light instead of waiting for it to appear. My hope is that it inspires you to ignite your own light and rise from the ashes. Because even in our darkest moments, we carry the fire within us to endure, transform, and overcome.
From Breaking Point to Breakthrough
As an entrepreneur, you take risks—you have to. We’ve all heard stories of successful people who endured hardship before turning their visions into reality. But what we rarely talk about is the overwhelming stress that comes with these journeys.
I’ve weathered many storms in my life, but this one was different. This storm broke me open and transformed my life forever.
I thought I was prepared. I had enough savings to last me until summer. I was doing everything right:
- Showing up every day.
- Reaching out and networking.
- Developing services the market needed.
- Pouring my energy into making it work.
Yet, nothing seemed to work.
In fact, every area of my life began unraveling:
- I was recovering from a debilitating Achilles heel injury, unable to walk properly.
- I couldn’t afford public transport while taking care of my son’s daily needs.
- Our rabbit became ill, requiring expensive veterinary care.
- Despite hiring a cold email outreach expert, I faced over 3,000 silent “no’s” and rejections.
As summer approached, my savings ran out. I couldn’t see a way forward. My worst fears became my reality.
That was the end of the old me.
In that moment of despair, a part of me had to die to make room for a new version of myself—the version that could hold the blessings waiting for me.
This is how I climbed out of rock bottom.
If you’re there right now, know this: You can rise, too.
Let me share the lessons that helped me find light in the darkness.
Summer arrived, and my savings were gone.
There I was:
- A single mom.
- A big dreamer.
- A hard worker.
And yet, I was left with nothing but my biggest fears, with no one around to help me.
That was the end of the old me.
In that moment of despair, a part of me had to die to make room for a new version of myself—the version that could hold the blessings waiting for me.
This is the story of how I climbed out of my rock bottom.
How I turned desperation into determination.
And how I found the light when the tunnel seemed endless.
If you’ve ever been there, or if you’re there right now, know this: You can rise, too.
Let me share how I did it.
